Blueberries & Cherries Scones

2 cups white flour 3 tbls. white sugar
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 cup margarine 3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup dried cherries, blueberries, dates, raisins or cranberries
Additional milk for tops

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in margarine with pastry cutter or fingers until mixture resembles coarse oatmeal. Add fruit and mix together. Add 3/4 cup milk. Mix lightly with a fork until just blended. Add 1 or 2 additional tablespoons of milk if necessary to hold mixture together. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Divide dough into two equal parts and turn on floured board. Pat into circles 1 " thick. Handle only enough to pat into shape. Score with a knife halfway through to form four portions in each circle. Brush with 1 tablespoon milk. Bake 18 to 20 minutes. Serves eight.
